Dental X-Rays, The Lowdown.

The Dental Pod is proud, as part of its holistic dental care to offer digital x-rays to our patients.

How often should dental x-rays be taken ?

The need for dental x-rays can depend on your individual dental health needs. At the Dental Pod we usually recommend x-rays based upon the review of your medical and dental history, a dental exam, your age and any risk or signs of symptoms or disease. A full mouth x-ray is often recommended for new patients and bitewing x-rays are taken at any subsequent check-ups and are advisable every 2 years depending on your dental needs.

Please be assured that at the Dental Pod we only prescribe x-rays when necessary and do everything possible to ensure your safety, limit your

exposure and protect and care for the environment at the same time.

What is a Digital X-Ray ?

Digital x-ray is the new technology used to take dental x-rays. By using an electronic sensor the dentist can now capture, store or enlarge a digital image while helping to aid in the quick and simple detection of any underlying dental problems. Digital x-rays reduce radiation to the patient by approximately 80-90% and comparing that to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays is a considerable drop in risk.

Why do dentists take X-rays ?

Dental x-rays are an essential diagnostic tool and provide vital information to the dentist and patient that are not visible to the naked eye during a dental examination. At the Dental Pod we use x-rays to safely and accurately detect any hidden problems and in turn set out the required treatment plan.

X-rays are done to help to detect and treat dental problems at an early stage. This is to save you from potential or harmful problems occurring with your teeth and therefore your overall health.

What can dental x-rays tell us ?
  • If you have decay between your teeth
  • If you have bone loss
  • Poor tooth and root positions
  • Problems inside your tooth or below your gum line
  • They can reveal an abscess or a cyst
  • Any developmental abnormalities
  • Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors
Is digital safer ?

Digital x-rays produce a significantly lower level of radiation compared to the old traditional x-rays and is considered to be very safe. At the Dental Pod we still take all the necessary precautions to limit your exposure to radiation by only taking those X-rays that are absolutely necessary.

Cleaner and greener at the Dental Pod.

Since digital imaging is captured electronically, there is no need to develop x-rays in the old fashioned way. This eliminates the need for harmful waste, lead foils and the disposal of chemicals into the environment. Digital radiography is a very green and environmentally friendly process that adds to the Dental Pod’s environmental initiatives.

At the Dental Pod we don’t just say we are different we actually do things differently.
